Countertop Shopping? Don’t Forget About Your Sink and Faucet!

When shopping for a new countertop, it’s important to remember that your sink and faucet are also part of the equation. Your sink and faucet should be chosen with your countertop in mind, in order to create a cohesive look. In this blog post, we will discuss some things you need to consider when choosing a sink and faucet for your new countertop.

Sink and Faucet Considerations

Functionality

First and foremost, you need to make sure that your sink and faucet are functional. They should meet your needs in terms of size, shape, and function. Consider how you will use your sink and faucet, and make sure that they are up to the task. In terms of countertops, you will also need to make sure that your sink and faucet fit the hole cutouts in your countertop.

Style

Another thing to consider is style. Your sink and faucet should match the overall style of your kitchen or bathroom. If you have a modern room, then you’ll want a modern-looking sink and faucet. If you have a more traditional kitchen or bathroom, then you’ll want something that looks more traditional. There are many different styles to choose from, so take your time and find something that complements your overall room design.

Finish

The finish on your sink and faucet is also important. You’ll want to choose a finish that complements your countertop and other fixtures in your room. For example, if you have stainless steel appliances, then you might want to choose a stainless steel sink and faucet. Or, if you have a marble countertop, then you might want to choose a white or brushed nickel finish. There are also composite sinks to compliment all granite and quartz options. There are many different finishes available, so take your time and browse all your options!

Sink and Countertop Compatibility

Beyond functionality, style, and finish, there are several other considerations to keep in mind when making sure your sink and countertop are compatible.

Countertop Material – When choosing a countertop material, you’ll likely want to choose a material that is durable and easy to care for. At Amanzi Marble & Granite, we carry a range of countertop materials including marble, granite, quartz, and quartzite. We can help you choose the right countertop material depending on your needs!

Sink Size – Make sure that your sink is the right size for your countertop. You don’t want a sink that is too small or too large. A farmhouse-style sink, for example, is lower than a typical sink and has different requirements regarding sizing the countertop.

Faucet Holes – Your countertop will need to have the proper number of holes cut out for your faucet.  Most sinks will require at least two holes: one for the faucet and one for the drain. Some sinks will require additional holes for things like a sprayer or soap dispenser.

Edge Profile – The edge profile of your countertop will also need to be considered. Some sink and faucet combinations will only work with certain edge profiles. For example, an undermount sink requires a countertop with a flat or slightly beveled edge.

Accessories – There are many different accessories available for sinks and faucets. A built-in soap dispenser, for example, can be a great addition to your kitchen. This will, in turn, impact the number of holes required to be cut into the countertop.

A Comprehensive Guide to Picking the Perfect Countertop for Your Home

Are you in the market for a new countertop? If so, you’re probably wondering how to pick the perfect one. With so many options available, it can be difficult to know where to start. In this blog post, we will provide you with a comprehensive guide to picking the perfect countertop for your home. We’ll cover everything from materials to installation tips, so you can make an informed decision and get the most out of your investment!

How to Pick the Perfect Countertop for Your Home

There are many things to consider when picking a countertop. The most important thing is to pick something that fits your needs and budget.

Here are some things to keep in mind when picking a countertop:

Material

There are many different materials available, including granite, marble, quartz, quartzite, and more. Each has its own unique properties, so you’ll want to choose one that fits your needs. For example, if you’re looking for a durable countertop, granite, quartz or quartzite might be the best option. If you’re looking for the most  affordable option, Level One granite is your best bet. If beauty is what you are looking for, marble is timeless!

Installation

Most countertops require professional installation, while a simple vanity or desktop piece can be installed by the homeowner. If you’re not comfortable with installing the countertop yourself, At Amanzi, we already factor in the cost of professional installation, and because all of our installers are full time employees it’s a great investment!

Maintenance

ALL countertops require maintenance, but some materials require more than others. For example, granite and marble countertops need to be sealed when installed to prevent staining, but should be cleaned by the customer regularly to prevent staining. Quartz and quartzite countertops require more maintenance when installed, and only require occasional cleaning with the proper products. At Amanzi, we offer a 3-in-1 cleaner that can be used on your countertops.

Budget

Countertops can range in price from a few hundred dollars to several thousand, so it’s important to pick one that fits your budget. At Amanzi, we have countertop stone for all budgets. Please ask about our remnant pieces as well.

Look and Feel

The look and feel of your countertop is important. You’ll want to choose a material that compliments the rest of your kitchen or bathroom. For example, if you have a modern kitchen or bathroom, you might want to choose a sleek, glossy countertop. If you have a more traditional kitchen or bathroom, you might want to choose a classic stone countertop. At Amanzi, we also have a unique leathered finish, that works great as a textured top, as well.

Types of Countertops

When it comes to countertops, there are two main types:

Overhang: Overhang countertops are installed so that they extend beyond the edge of the base cabinets. This type of countertop is often used in kitchens where there is an island or peninsula.

Undermount: Undermount countertops are installed so that they sit flush with the edge of the base cabinets. This type provides a clean, seamless look and is often used in contemporary kitchens and bathrooms.

Choosing a Material

As we mentioned earlier, there are many different materials available for kitchen countertops. At Amanzi Marble & Granite, we carry some of the most popular options, including granite, marble, quartz, quartzite and porcelain. Each has its own unique properties, so you’ll want to choose one that fits your needs:

Granite Countertops Pros and Cons

Granite is one of the most popular materials for kitchen countertops. It’s durable, heat-resistant, and comes in a variety of colors and patterns. However, granite is a porous material, so it needs to be sealed regularly to prevent staining.

Quartz Countertops Pros and Cons

Quartz is a man-made material that offers the beauty of stone with the durability of engineered materials. Quartz is non-porous, so it doesn’t need to be sealed like granite. Quartz is also available in a wide range of colors and can be customized to match any décor.

Marble Countertops Pros and Cons

Marble is a classic material that has been used for centuries. Marble countertops are beautiful, but they require more maintenance than other options. Marble is a soft stone, so marble countertops are susceptible to scratches and etching from everyday use.

Quartzite Countertops Pros and Cons

Quartzite is a natural stone that looks similar to marble. Quartzite is durable and heat-resistant, but, similar to granite, it’s also a porous material, so it needs to be sealed regularly. Quartzite comes in a wide range of colors, from white to black, and many options in-between.

Porcelain Countertops Pros and Cons

Porcelain is a ceramic material that mainly consists of a clay mineral and materials that are combined in a kiln at extremely high temperatures to form the finished product. Because of that, porcelain countertops have a high heat resistance, as well as being less prone to water damage than other materials.  One of the cons of a porcelain countertop is that it is more prone to scratches and cracks than other stone countertop materials.

Picking the Right Edge Profile

Once you’ve chosen your material, you’ll need to pick an edge profile. The edge profile is the shape of the countertop’s edges. There are many different options available, so you’ll want to choose one that fits your kitchen’s style. Our Professional Account Managers are able to show you examples, and help you make the best choice for your kitchen or bathroom.

Caring for Your New Countertop

Once your new countertop is installed, it’s important to care for it properly. Be sure to use coasters or trivets when placing hot items on the surface. Use mild soap and water to clean spills as soon as they happen. And, if your countertop is made of granite, marble, or quartzite, be sure to seal it regularly to help prevent staining.

Amanzi Marble & Granite Can Help

Amanzi Marble & Granite is here to help you choose the perfect countertop for your home. We carry a wide variety of materials, including granite, marble, quartz, quartzite and porcelain. Our experienced professionals can help you pick the right material, edge profile and install your new countertop quickly and easily.  Contact us today to get started!

Do you wish you had a bigger kitchen?

Do you wish you had a bigger kitchen? If moving house or extending your kitchen aren’t options, then there’s still plenty you can do to make the most of the space you have. Read on for some tips on how to make your small kitchen more efficient on space while also helping it to look and feel more spacious.

Be efficient with storage

Small kitchens might not have much storage space, so you need to be really efficient with the space that you do have. Take some time to think and plan out what goes where to streamline the way you use your cabinets, shelves, and drawers. Purchasing storage organizers can also help you fit more into these spaces.

Avoid dark colors

A predominantly black kitchen can look really sleek and modern, but it’s not the best option for small kitchens. Too many dark surfaces can make a small room feel even more claustrophobic. Opt for lighter colors to create the impression of a lighter, more spacious room.

Mirrored backsplash

Mirrors can create the impression of more space by reflecting light and can create a greater sense of depth. While mirrors don’t usually belong in the kitchen, a mirrored backsplash can help you achieve this space-enhancing illusion.

Integrated hardware

In a small kitchen, handles sticking out of cabinets and drawers can infringe on the space, both visually and physically as you may be more likely to bump into the hardware. Cabinets and drawers with integrated hardware create a more streamlined appearance and won’t get in the way.

Open shelving

Upper cabinets can also infringe a great deal on the appearance of space, looming over the room and making it feel more claustrophobic. Installing open shelving instead of cabinets in the upper portion of your kitchen gives a more open and spacious feeling while still providing valuable storage space.

Floating surfaces

If you want to add a surface for preparing food or eating, such as a kitchen island or breakfast bar, then opt for one with space underneath it rather than a unit that goes all the way to the floor. As well as appearing more open, this also gives you a place to tuck chairs into if it’s a seating area, so that they don’t stick out and take up space.

One upside of small kitchens is that you won’t have to spend as much if you decide to remodel. This could free up more budget to spend on the materials and features that you want, such as granite countertops, rather than having to compromise on a lower-cost option, such as laminate.

If you want to add natural stone countertops, such as granite or marble, to your kitchen, then contact Amanzi Granite to find out more about our countertops and installation services.

If you’re thinking of adding an island to your kitchen, then we’ve got some tips to help you design it

A kitchen island is an extremely versatile space that can also provide a nice focal point for the design of your kitchen.

The size of your island

The first consideration when adding an island to your kitchen is whether or not you have enough space. Installing an island in a small kitchen can leave you very little space in which to move around. Measure your floor to make sure a kitchen island would fit and to determine the dimensions you want for your island.

Under island storage

Your island can also help save space in your kitchen by incorporating storage under the island counter. It’s the perfect place for drawers, cabinets, or open storage. Alternatively, you might want to install kitchen appliances like a small refrigerator or an oven underneath your island. If you’d prefer to have an open space under your island, then make sure the rest of your kitchen provides sufficient storage space.

Countertop materials

Next up is the surface of your kitchen island. It is best to match your kitchen island countertop with the counters in the rest of your kitchen to create a uniformity across the room. This will make sure your island looks like a natural extension of your kitchen. Choose the same material and try to match the tones and patterns, although natural stone tends to be slightly different with each slab.

Edge profile

With the edge profile of your island, you might choose to match it with your countertops. Modern kitchens tend to look best with minimalist edges like a square or beveled edge. Or you could create a contrast between your island and the rest of the room. Where an intricate edge might look over-the-top when applied to the entire kitchen, it can serve to draw the eye to your kitchen island as the focal point of the room. A waterfall edge can also suit kitchen islands perfectly.

Kitchen island accessories

Think about what you’ll be using your kitchen island for. If you need extra space for cooking and preparing food, then you might want to install a stovetop in your island or a kitchen sink and draining area. If you go in this direction, then it’s a good idea to split the island in half, with half used for appliances like these and the other half as open space for sitting and eating at. For this purpose, bar stools or other high chairs are essential to provide seating for you and your guests.

If you want a natural stone countertop to perfect your kitchen island, then contact Amanzi Granite to choose the best surface for you. We can install and seal your granite countertop around Kernersville, Winston Salem, Greensboro, and High Point, NC.

Why You Should Choose Marble for Kitchen Countertops

You get an amazing, unique appearance

There are lots of unique natural stones to choose from when designing your kitchen. Natural stone has lots of advantages for your kitchen countertops, and each material is slightly different. As well as stones like granite and quartz, marble is a very popular choice for kitchen countertops. Let’s look at some of the main reasons people choose marble for their kitchen countertops.

One of the main draws of marble is its elegant, timeless appearance. Not only does it look great, but you also get a completely unique appearance for your countertops because each slab is slightly different. The color tones, patterns, and veinings vary from one piece of marble to the next, giving it that uniqueness.

It’s heat resistant

You don’t have to worry about putting a hot plate or pan down on your marble countertops, because marble is completely heat resistant. This is a big advantage if you love to cook and bake a lot. In fact, marble is one of the best choices when it comes to heat-resistance. As a bonus, this also makes it a solid choice if you’re looking for a natural stone surround for your fireplace.

It’s incredibly durable

Marble is an impressively durable material, meaning it is resistant against scratches and will last a long time in good condition. Although it takes a little more maintenance than granite countertops, it is still a great choice for its toughness. Just look at all the old buildings and statues made from marble as a testament to its durability. So, you don’t have to worry too much about scratches and chips if you accidentally drop something on your countertops.

You can seal marble countertops for extra resilience

One downside to marble as a material in the kitchen is that it can be prone to staining and etching if acidic liquids are spilled on it. The good news is that this can be prevented effectively by sealing your countertops. Doing this fills the pores at the surface of the stone to prevent liquids from being absorbed so quickly. As long as you clean up spills quickly, your sealed marble countertops should be safe from stains.

Are you convinced to have marble countertops in your new kitchen design? You will love the look and richness they bring to your home. Contact Amanzi for more advice or countertop installation around Winston Salem, Greensboro, High Point, and Kernersville.

What’s New in the Shower? The Latest Design Trends

If you’re planning a bathroom remodel in the new year, then the shower is an important part of that. If you’re one to keep up with the latest trends in home design, then we’ve got some interesting ones you’ll want to incorporate into your shower design.

Natural stone tiles

This isn’t new but it’s a trend that’s certainly growing in popularity, for the shower floor as well as wall tiles. Marble and granite tiles are more commonly being installed in the flooring of walk-in showers. They often provide a more luxurious, spa-like look and feel to your shower. Walk-in and open showers are also great for creating a seamless appearance between your bathroom and shower floor, making the space look larger and removing any accessibility difficulties with getting in and out of the shower.

Full slabs

Not only are people moving more towards natural stone tiles, but they’re also changing the look of those tiles. Again, it’s all about becoming more seamless. With this in mind, homeowners are opting more for large tiles and full slabs rather than lots of smaller tiles. A smaller number of large tiles means fewer gaps and less grouting in between tiles, helping to create that seamless look and also making cleaning your shower tiles even easier.

Invisible drains

Now shower drains are even blending in with the tiles around them. The drain is often a part of the shower that detracts from the overall design, but not anymore. You can use a natural stone inlay for your drain so that it blends in with the rest of the floor, and the drain around it is barely visible, so the water seems to just disappear right into the ground beneath you. There’s no more breaking up the aesthetics of your shower floor with an out of place metal drain.

Smart showers

While not exactly related to design, we just had to include this one because of how cool it is. Following the lead of smart toilets made famous in Japan, showers are starting to adopt smart technology, too. Digital and smart showers let you set the water temperature exactly rather than spending ages finding the perfect spot. They can allow you to switch on your shower and set the temperature via remote control, so you don’t have to get a wet arm switching it on or stand under cold water waiting for it to heat up. These and other features are attracting more people to the idea of smart tech in their bathroom.

Work with Amanzi to design the shower of your dreams with your next home remodel. Contact us today for ideas and services for your natural stone renovations around Winston Salem, Greensboro, High Point, and Kernersville.

Granite, marble, and other natural stone surfaces are an elegant way to boost the aesthetic appeal of your Business

Granite, marble, and other natural stone surfaces are an elegant way to boost the aesthetic appeal of your home, whether you’re looking for kitchen countertops, bathroom tiles, or stone floors for an outdoor patio. But natural stone isn’t just ideal for your home, but also for businesses looking to boost their curb appeal or give a more professional image, while also making a sustainable choice in materials.

At Amanzi Granite, we provide high-quality natural stone and professional installation and other services for commercial interiors and exteriors. Read on for some of the best ways you could use natural stone in your business.

Hotel lobbies

Think of that feeling of luxury you get when you step into a hotel lobby adorned with marble columns and polished stone floors. Natural stone can really elevate the aesthetics of your hotel, including smaller accents around the building and even in the rooms as well as larger pieces like stone floors and counters. Lobbies of office buildings, events spaces, and other commercial buildings can also utilize natural stone well.

Bars/restaurants/kitchens

Natural stone countertops and bar tops can go great in a range of settings that serve food and drink. And they can fit in with a wide range of styles – they’re not just for the luxurious commercial settings. Natural stone floors can also be a good choice for these types of businesses as they can withstand a lot of foot traffic and can be textured to provide a non-slippery floor.

Outdoor signs

If you have a large outdoor sign that welcomes people to your venue/business or directs people where to go, then it needs to be a material that can withstand a variety of weather conditions over time. Natural stone is a tough and durable option that also produces a great aesthetic to present your business in a good light.

Commercial landscaping

For commercial spaces and businesses with gardens or grounds, natural stone can be used as landscaping accents in a number of ways. Stone paths, water features, walls, stepping stones, outdoor seating, and various decorative options are just a few of the ways natural stone can lift the aesthetics of your outdoor commercial space.

Our services include cleaning, sealing, polishing, and honing your natural stone to keep everything looking in good condition and lasting for as long as possible. To find out more about our commercial services or to get a quote for your business, contact Amanzi Granite for expert services around Winston Salem, Greensboro, High Point, and Kernersville.

Choosing cleaning products for natural stone floors

Granite tiles and other types of natural stone tiles can make great floors for your kitchen and bathroom. They’re durable and aesthetically pleasing, making them worth the price. Another advantage of natural stone floors is that they are reasonably easy to clean and maintain. So, let’s look at some tips and advice on how to clean your granite floors and other natural stone floors.

Choosing cleaning products for natural stone floors

You don’t want to use any cleaning products that could potentially damage or weaken your stone floors. Just like your stone countertops, anything that is overly acidic can stain or etch your floors. It is best to look for products that are “neutral” rather than too acidic or too alkaline. Products that say they don’t leave behind a residue are also good choices. Cleaners that are specifically designed for natural stone floors could be your safest bet.

If you want to use homemade cleaners instead of store-bought ones, then avoid acidic ingredients like vinegar, lemon juice, and ammonia. A mild dish soap mixed with warm water can do the trick in most instances, although you may need something stronger for more stubborn stains.

Sweep and vacuum regularly

Natural stone is a tough material, but it isn’t immune to scratches and dents. Sweeping and/or vacuuming regularly will keep your floor free of debris and small particles that could scratch the stone as people walk over it. A quick sweep every day is a simple task that could help to keep your floors in good condition.

Mopping stone floors

Next, use your chosen cleaning solution to mop your floors with warm water. Or you may just be able to spray your cleaner on the floor and clean the surface using a dry mop, depending on what kind of product you’re using. Make sure to get into those grout lines between the tiles as well. It’s a good idea to scrub the grout lines occasionally with a smaller cloth or tool to clean them deeper, preventing dirt and grime from building up too much.

Sealing stone floors

You can keep your natural stone floors in good condition for longer if you seal them to reduce their porosity and help to prevent staining and scratching. Have your stone floors sealed when you get them installed and then reseal them once a year or so to keep the sealant intact.

If you’re looking for quality granite or other types of natural stone for your floors, walls, or countertops, then contact Amanzi Granite to get a quote, or visit us in our Kernersville showroom to see our stone up close to help you decide.
