Congratulations to, Amanzi Marble and Granite, the Kernersville Chamber of Commerce May Business of the Month.
Omar Kalaf had a vision. That vision, with an abundance of hard work, good people and positive thinking has turned in to Amanzi Marble and Granite which has served the Triad since 2003.
The adventure didn’t start off in a beautiful building, in fact, Amanzi Marble and Granite started in a backyard garage here in Kernersville. Once up and running the company moved to a garage building, but had to borrow the power and water from the neighbors. In 2005, the company moved to its’ current location at 1203 East Mountain Street, in Kernersville.
With 40 employees, who are treated like family, this company is owned by Omar Kalaf, but as he says it would not be what it is without Vice President Tammy Marsh and his staff team. Mr. Kalaf said that they live and do business with these core values:
Trust
Reliability
True Passion
Keeping in mind their core values in all that they do and their love for counter tops is what makes Amanzi different. When asked about the reaction to this award, Mr. Kalaf with a great big smile, said that it’s about his Vice Presidents’ teamwork, and his dedicated employees and strong customer base.
Amanzi Marble and Granite has also been recognized as the 2010 SBA Associate Member of the Year, 2011 Ethics Award by the Better Business Bureau, and the 2012 Small Business Person of the Year.
Mr. Kalaf shared with emotion that he never dreamed anything like this would happen when he looks back to 2003. When some businesses were downsized, Amanzi has had growth in number of employees by 10% and has experienced financial growth by 35%. He is always proud of the fact that when someone visits his showroom they can see the quality of workmanship and products produced by this Kernersville based business.
Amanzi is involved in the community and does so much. Among other things, they have been instrumental in the past with chamber events. One of the highlights of the Economic Development Day during the Leadership Kernersville program is to take a tour of the process in converting the marble and granite to countertops and other products.
When asked what the present and future plans are for the company, Omar proudly shares the completion of the Showroom in April and plans for the land recently purchased next door to the showroom. His vision for a daycare and workout area for his employees is something he has always wanted to do. Recycling is also something that Amanzi is working on. He is hopeful that the leftover material can be used in another product – his fire pits.
Congratulations to Omar Kalaf and his wonderful team.
