Decorative Tile Accent Trends

Here at Amanzi Marble, Granite and Tile, we specialize in marble and granite slab countertops, so we’re always quick to talk about all the wonders of stone slab. But, we also sell a variety of tile options that are ideal for both kitchens and bathrooms and we have a designer on site to help customers and builders select the perfect combination of tile and stone. Tiling is impressively versatile and can be used as an alternative to slab countertops, or as a way to accent your main countertops.

If you’re remodelling your kitchen or bathroom, have a read of some of these ideas for using tile as an accent in your design.

Decorative accent tiles

Decorative accent tiles can be used for your backsplash, flooring, or shower tile, for example, as a way to complement and contrast the design of the rest of the room. They are commonly combined with stone countertops in both kitchens and bathrooms.

Decorative tile is often bold, bright, and colorful, whereas popular stone countertops tend to be subtler and more understated. This makes the two design materials a perfect match. Particularly in modern kitchen design, people don’t want a lot of loud colors distracting the eye, so marble and granite countertops are a good option as they bring a touch of simplicity and sophistication to the room while still being incredibly attractive.

But, not everyone will like this kind of monochromatic look in their entire bathroom or kitchen, which is where decorative accent tiles come in. These add a level of depth to the room by contrasting the stone countertop, designed either to draw your focus to the countertop or away from it.

Popular trends at the moment include using colorful accent tiles to brighten and liven up the room. These may also be patterned to help bring an extra dimension to the design of the room. Tiles of different materials may also be used to contrast your countertop, with metallic tiling becoming increasingly popular. Accent tiles featuring small icons or images may also be used to build a theme within a room. An example of this could be bathroom tiling featuring dolphins or kitchen tiling featuring chickens.

There is plenty of room to get creative when designing a new bathroom or kitchen, so think about how you can incorporate accent tiles in your design. To help you out, we have a variety of design tools on our website to help you visualize the different aspects of your space.
