Want to update a bland kitchen by adding color to refresh it and make it more appealing? Well, there are plenty of things you can do, from inexpensive wall painting to a bigger update like installing new granite or marble countertops. Here are some ideas to inspire you.

1. Go for open or glass-fronted cabinets that display your kitchen dishes and supplies. If you don’t have the budget for new cabinets, simply remove the doors from the old cabinets to showcase the shelves or add new doors with a glass front.

2. Color the interior of your open shelves. You can line the back of your cabinet walls with colorful and patterned paper liner. It’s a simple way to update old cabinets and beautify them. For best results choose striking contrasts like white and blue or white and red.

3. Paint one or two walls bright colors, contrasting them to the other walls. The walls in your kitchen don’t all have to be the same color. Make sure though that you pick two colors that complement each other, like green and white, a popular combination.

4. Replace the countertops. By replacing your old countertops with new granite or marble countertops you can change dramatically the coloring in your kitchen. 6. Change the color of the island. If you have as island, then it’s probably the focal point in your kitchen – by painting the cabinets a bolder color you can reinvent your kitchen.

7. Paint kitchen appliances or exchange them for new ones. While it’s not recommended that you try to paint your toaster, you can experiment with the painting the doors of older gas ovens or refrigerators.

8. Install a new tile backsplash. Tile backsplashes come in all imaginable colors – blues and greens and yellows included – and are quite affordable. You can match them with granite or marble countertops or even create a mosaic for a special effect.
