Installing new countertops is a great way to update the look and feel of your kitchen or bathroom. They can completely transform the space and make it feel like a whole new room. However, before jumping into a countertop installation project, there are several things you should consider.
1. Choosing a Countertop
First and foremost, it’s important to choose a countertop material that suits your needs. There are many options available in the market, each with its own unique characteristics and price points. Natural stones such as granite, marble, or quartzite are all popular choices for their durability and timeless aesthetic. Quartz is another popular option offered by Amanzi Marble & Granite. Consider factors such as maintenance, durability, and budget when making your decision.
Our blog, “8 Essential Questions to Ask When Shopping for Natural Stone” can help you navigate the process of choosing the right countertop material for your home.
2. Measuring and Layout
Once you have chosen a countertop material, accurate measurements and layout are crucial for a successful installation. Improper measurements can lead to costly mistakes and delays in the project. It’s recommended to hire a professional installer who will have the necessary tools and expertise to ensure precise measurements and a proper layout. At Amanzi, we have a team of experienced Templaters, who utilize the latest in laser technology, for precise measurements.
Our blog, “5 Things to Consider When Choosing a Countertop Installer” provides helpful tips on finding the right installer for your project.
3. Style Choices
Beyond just the type of stone that will be used for your countertop, there are many style choices to consider such as edge profiles and how the new countertop will work with the rest of your space. These details can greatly impact the overall look and feel of your room. Take the time to research and select these elements carefully to achieve the desired aesthetic.
At Amanzi Granite & Marble, we’re happy to offer our Countertop Edge Visualizer tool to help you explore different edge profiles and find the perfect one for your countertop.
Our Kitchen Visualizer tool also allows you to experiment with different countertop materials and backsplash options to create the kitchen of your dreams.
4. Countertop Installation
At Amanzi Granite & Marble, our team of experienced installers will make sure your countertops are installed correctly and efficiently. We take care of every step in the process, from templating and cutting the stone to installation and sealing. Our goal is to provide you with a hassle-free experience and beautiful results. The tips below will help your installation go seamlessly.
Disconnect all plumbing
To ensure a successful installation, please disconnect all sinks, faucets, and disposals before our arrival. This will allow us to lift out the sink smoothly and efficiently.
Disconnect the gas
Before our arrival, please disconnect the gas range or cooktop so that we can easily move or lift it as required.
Disconnect all electrical wiring
Before our arrival, please ensure that the range, cooktop, or vent is disconnected if it is hardwired.
Remove the microwave
Before our arrival, please ensure that the microwave is removed from the countertop if we had previously planned to install a backsplash.
Clear off all countertops
Before our arrival, please ensure that countertops are completely cleared of personal belongings and any removable appliances.
5. Other Considerations
Are you planning to purchase new appliances?
To ensure a proper fit, it is imperative that we obtain the precise dimensions of any new or updated appliances, as well as any alterations to the overall layout, prior to reaching the template stage. This information is crucial to ensure a seamless and efficient process.
Are you planning to purchase new faucets?
To ensure precise placement and sizing of drill holes, please inform us of your plans before the template stage. It is essential that you have the new faucets available during the installation. Please note that a trip charge will be applied for any drill work performed after the installation.
Are you planning to purchase a new sink outside of our inventory?
We offer a basic selection of sinks, but we’re more than willing to collaborate with you to achieve your desired look. If you plan to provide your own sink, please inform us before the template stage. Your new sink must be present on-site during the template stage. Our expert template designer will then assess your sink and make precise cut-outs to ensure a perfect fit.
Are you planning to remove tile, flush shelving or make any other changes that might impact the fit of the stone?
To avoid any complications with the width or length of your countertops, it is crucial to remove anything that may cause an impact before the template stage. This will ensure a precise and accurate cut-out.
